On October 25th 2022, Rishi Sunak became the UK’s Prime Minister. And the first of British Asian origin. A man who follows the Hindu faith who became the Prime Minister on Diwali which is one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar.
Mr Sunak was elected to the post of Prime Minister by Conservative members of parliament following the resignation of Liz Truss who won the election of Conservative Party members. She became Prime Minister after a leadership election which was created by Boris Johnson’s resignation in the summer of 2022.
Rishi Sunak had held previous posts within government – Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Chancellor of the Exchequer when Boris Johnson was Prime Minister.
