Addressing a special meeting of the UN Security Council in New Delhi, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin reiterated the need to reform and expand the 15-member UNSC said it in the meeting held New Delhi, and saying that a non-representative UN Security Council is simply not equipped to handle the the current challenges of the world. He reportedly said in Delhi, the reasons for  lack of success of international structures designed seven decades ago in dealing with the complex challenges of today are self evident.

India, a country of 1.2 billion people remains out of the permanent  membership of the UN Security Council. Four of its five members – US, Britain, France and Russia – supported India’s bid for permanent membership f the UNSC. China  has been opposed to so far. And move to reform and expand  the Security Council is itself moving at snails pace, resulting in frustration in international community. Various other countries also echoed for the reforms of Security Council, said media news report.
