India’s former Defence Minister George Fermandes reportedly died last week in New Delhi, age 88, who hailed from Mangaluru in Karnataka was ailling for a long time, he was one of the most prominent leaders of the socialist movement in the 1970s. He was a senior Janata Dal leader before he founded the Samanta Party. He was elected to the lok Sabha reportedly 9 times and once to the Rajya Sabha, news report said.
According to media news report, leaders cutting across party lines, including President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Naredra Modi expressed grief and have mourned his death.
